Chilton R. Jones

Chilton R. Jones, LCDR USN, retired, 73, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Hope Hospice. He was born Feb. 1, 1936, in Nashville, Tenn., the only child of Chilton and Gay (Albritton) Jones.

He graduated from Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Va., and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, earning his commission as a naval officer and naval aviator.

He proudly served his country, including three Vietnam tours, and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross in October 1967. He retired with 23 years of service as a lieutenant commander in October 1978.

C.R., a 31-year resident of Cape Coral, was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Fort Myers Chapter of SCORE and the Cape Coral B.P.O.E. He cherished his friends and 17-year membership in A.A.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Carol (Dobbins); son, Ronald of Bangkok, Thailand; son, Scott of Cape Coral; brother-in-law, James (Carol) Dobbins of Virginia Beach, Va.; sister-in-law, Yvonne Dobbins of Albuquerque, N.M.; and loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2628 Del Prado Blvd. Sharing and celebrating will follow at St. Andrew Parish Hall.
