William Stuart Hommerbocker Jr.
William Stuart Hommerbocker Jr., 78, of Cape Coral, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, March 31, 2009. He was born May 14, 1930, in Baltimore, Md., to William Stuart and Margaret (nee: Paul) Hommerbocker.
He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and Johns Hopkins University with a degree in engineering.
He began his career as a draftsman at the Maryland State Roads Commission in 1948. Other positions held were assistant division manager at Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, construction manager at Maryland Properties Inc. and corporate vice president at First Virginia Bank Shares Corp.
He retired from Kraft Construction Company in Naples as senior vice president in 1996.
A lifelong member of the Masonic Order, he received his 50-year membership award in April 2002 at Sharon Lodge 182 in Reisterstown, Md. He served as master of Sharon Lodge in 1959.
Other Masonic activities included serving as grand inspector, senior grand deacon and senior grand warden of the Grand Lodge of Maryland.
After retiring, he pursued interests in travel and music. He was a member of Cape Coral First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; sons, John (Sandye), Bill and Stephen (Jami); daughter, Stacy (Terrone); sister, Marlene (Jack) Beck; brother-in-law, Kenneth Gronberg; and many nieces and nephews.
A sister-in-law, Martha Murphy, is deceased.
Friends are invited to a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the sanctuary at Cape Coral First United Methodist Church. Refreshments will follow at fellowship hall. He will be interred at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens at a private service.
