Joseph Rakovich
Joseph Rakovich, 86, of Cape Coral, formerly of Michigan, died Thursday, March 5, 2009, in Fort Myers, under the care of Hope Hospice and surrounded by his family. He was born March 14, 1922, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Steve and Sarah (nee: Malaric) Rakovich, now deceased.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II with the 58th Bomb Wing and the 468th Bomb Group in the Pacific (China, India and Burma).
He moved to Cape Coral in 1976 after working for the city of Detroit, Mich., for 30 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 8463 and St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church.
His loving wife of 62 years, Rose Marie, preceded him in death on March 19, 2008.
He is survived by his sons, Richard S. (Jennifer), Robert J. and Ron (Mary); grandchildren, Amanda, Alexandra, Alyssa, Erika, Jason, Jennifer and Stephen; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Ro (Tony) Ruzich of Michigan
