Richard B. Foster
Richard B. Foster, 77, of Cape Coral and formerly of Bedford, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009.
He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1953, he attended East Coast Aero Tech at Bedford Airport, now called Hanscom Air Force Base, where he received his airframe and power plant mechanic’s license and his private pilot’s license.
His work as an airframe and power plant mechanic and his love of flying took him to many faraway places such as Wake Island, Lebanon, China, Russia and Greece.
In later years, he became an instructor at East Coast Aero Tech for several years, ultimately winding up working in the computer field.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Violet R. (Iovino); sister, Joan Tiek of Punta Gorda; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Foster; mother, Alice Foster; brother, Adam Foster; sister, Roberta Vizard; and half brother, Robert Williams.
A funeral service was held Tuesday at the Bedford Funeral Home. Interment was in Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford with military honors.
