James A. Haddad

James A. Haddad (“Jidd,” “Grandpa,” “Daddy” and “Uncle Jim”), 90, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, in Cape Coral. He was born in Rochester, Pa., and then moved to Canton, Ohio.

In 1934 when he was 16, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. CCC was a cornerstone of FDR’s “New Deal” during the Great Depression.

He retired from Roadway Express in 1975 and moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He decided to go back to high school and graduated, then continued on to Broward Community College and received an associate of arts degree.

He is survived by his daughter, Joni and son-in-law Bill Johnson; granddaughters, Jamie (Darryl) McKimm of Canton, Ohio, and Jennie (Lee) Bryant of Mississippi; grandsons, Bill (Laura) Johnson and Brandon (Kristin) Johnson of Cape Coral; three nieces; six nephews; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Joseph Haddad; brothers, Jack and Mike; sisters, Mary and Kay; daughters, Sandi Large and Gloria Phillips; grandson, James Naugle; niece, Miriam Michaels; wife, Helen, of 30 years; and wife, Meg, of 18 years.

“Jidd,” “Grandpa,” “Daddy” and “Uncle Jim” will be missed and forever loved. He touched so many people in his life and traveled all over the world, therefore the family feels it appropriate to scattered his ashes coast to coast – sea to sea.

Chaplain Steven Horner of Hope Hospice will officiate a memorial service at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Johnson’s home.
