Elmer William “Captain Al” Baker
Elmer William “Captain Al” Baker, 71, passed away too soon, Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, after a short battle with illness.
Born in Duquesne, Pa., and raised in West Mifflin, Pa., he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from the former Continental Can Company. He relocated to Florida in 1984 where he spent the next 22 years doing what he loved, fishing, boating and making friends wherever he traveled but particularly in the N. Redington Beach and Matlacha areas of Florida.
He was a man of great humor and knowledge who stood out anywhere he went. He returned home to West Mifflin in 2006 and was surrounded by his family and friends who loved and miss him dearly.
Son of John Baker and Mary (Gidick) Baker, now deceased, he was preceded in death by his sister Caroline.
He was the beloved father of Linda (Tom) Ligocki of Whitelaw, Wis., Patty Kolesar of Jefferson Hills, Pa., and Justine (Kevin) Cosley of Munhall, Pa.; cherished brother of John T. Baker of Michigan, Louise McDonald (Harold) Hollis of Ohio, Audrey B. (Bob) Pavuchak, James C. (Mary) Baker, Eugene (Margie) Baker and David (Melanie) Baker.
He will be remembered fondly by his seven grandchildren, Emily Ben, Kelly, Sarah, Faith, Quinn and John. He also will be missed and remembered by his cousins and many nieces and nephews and his soul mate Pat McDonald.
No visitation has been scheduled.
