Warren H. ‘Skip’ Harner Sr.

Warren H. “Skip” Harner Sr., 87, of North Fort Myers, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008. He was born March 8, 1921, in Germantown, Pa.

He was a resident of Florida for the past 28 years.

He committed his life to service to the nation and his community. He served in the U.S. Navy during War II in Florida and North Africa.

Later, he graduated from the Pennsylvania Institute of Criminology and earned an associate’s degree from Temple University in police science and administration.

For 34 years, he rose through the ranks as a police officer in Abington and Cheltenham Townships in Montgomery County, Pa. He served for eight years as chief of police for the Cheltenham Township Police Department and past-president of the Pennsylvania Police Chiefs Association.

He was a master mason in the Friendship-Williams Lodge 400 of Jenkintown, Pa., and a former member of Shriners’ Arba Temple in Fort Myers.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Jane; and two sons and families, Warren and Lisa Harner, Renny and Erin of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and William and Lindsley Harner, Billy and Jessica of Mechanicsburg, Pa.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Faith Presbyterian Church, 4544 Coronado Parkway.
