Wayne D. Burkett
After 61 wonderful years of life, Wayne D. Burkett, of Cape Coral, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, Dec. 1, 2008
LIVE
Born in Jefferson City, he grew up in the cozy, friendly town of Chamois, Mo., where he met the love of his life at 16 years of age, his wife of 40 years, Lodi.
After graduating from the University of Missouri and raising his son, Marc, and daughter, Teri Lynn, in Columbia, he moved his loving family to Cape Coral in 1986.
Truly blessed as someone who loved their work, he fostered a personal relationship with every one of his clients and naturally redefined the role of a stereotypical CPA at Marshall, Burkett & Associates and Wilkerson, Burkett & Associates.
LAUGH
With a personality equally as potent as his sense of humor, he was the proverbial life of the party; the first person to greet you and the last person to leave.
His boundless spontaneity and unquenchable thirst for adventure – not to mention the occasional Bud Light – awarded him the unique ability to fully enjoy the moment and fulfill his lifelong quest of trying everything at least once.
Whether through scuba, through the sky or off of a cliff, he would dive headfirst into each new chapter of his life.
From Niagara Falls to Las Vegas, to the mountains of Colorado and the beaches of the Bahamas, his life’s greatest passion was traveling the world with his family.
The latest destination of his remarkable journey was Panama, where he planned to retire in his condo, overlooking the Pacific.
LOVE
He is survived by his loving wife, Lodi; son, Marc (Jessica) of Oak Lawn, Ill.; daughter, Teri (Dylan) Drake, and grandson, Myles Lyric of Cape Coral; father, Bill Huff of Ashland, Mo.; brother, Greg Huff, and family of O’Fallon, Mo.; countless clients, friends and family, both personal and professional; and first grandson, Paul Bunyon the chihuahua.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Terry Carl of Chamois, Mo.
His life will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway.
Donations can be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.
