Carl E. Biebel

Carl E. Biebel died Thursday, March 20, 2008. He was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Belleville, Ill., to Ina and Michael Biebel.

He joined the Navy in 1943 and served as a hospital apprentice on the U.S.S. Relief. He married Marie Buehler in 1948. He worked in the family business, Biebel Roofing Company in Belleville, Ill., before moving to Cape Coral.

He and his family were one of the first pioneers in Cape Coral, moving to the city in 1960. He came to the Cape to start his own building company, C & D Builders, where he built numerous buildings. One of them was his wife’s flower shop, Marie’s Flowers & Gifts, which was one of the first buildings on Cape Coral Parkway. They owned the company for 30 years.

He started C & D Marine Construction and was one of the leading marine contractors in the Cape until he retired in 1991. In 1994, they sold the flower shop and started traveling. He had a full life and was the best husband, daddy and grandpa in the world.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, a charter and life member of the VFW 8463, American Legion 90 and Fraternal Order of Eagles 3957.

He was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Pamela VanPelt and Patricia Rhodes; parents; brother, Kenneth; and sister, Sis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie Biebel; daughters, Ruth Lambert of Fort Myers Beach and Jane (David) Southwick of Cape Coral; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church. The VFW Honor Guard will hold services after the Mass.
