KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) – Jamaican police say an off-duty officer has been shot dead and his son wounded by gunmen who riddled their car with bullets.

A police statement says 56-year-old Anthony Simpson was shot multiple times Sunday by three gunmen in Little London district of rural Westmoreland parish. Simpson’s adult son was hospitalized in stable condition.

It was not immediately clear whether the shooting was related to Simpson’s police work. The gunmen took the constable’s firearm before driving off. There were no arrests.

Simpson is the seventh Jamaican officer killed so far in 2009.
