Challenger Middle School was target of ‘swatting’ threats

1 min read

Extra law enforcement will be on the campus at Challenger Middle School on Friday in the wake of a pair on swatting calls.

The Lee County School District sent an email to parents this morning to let families know that the threats were determined to be robo-calls from out of state and there is no credible threat to students or staff.

The school will operate on its usual schedule.

The district message reads:

“Good Morning,

I am writing to provide an update on yesterday’s incident and inform you of additional precautionary measures today.

“Yesterday’s false emergency call was determined to be a robocall originating from California, not a student-initiated call. Additionally, we became aware of another automated threat circulating on social media. Law enforcement has investigated both incidents and confirmed there is no credible threat to student or staff safety.

“As a precaution, you will notice an increased law enforcement presence on campus today. All students and staff are safe, and we are operating on our normal schedule.

“Your child’s safety remains our highest priority. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school community safe.
