Council to discuss roundabouts for some north Cape intersections

Utility expansion and related roadway programs are on Cape Coral City Council’s workshop agenda this week.

The North 1 East UEP and North 3 UEP roadway options are among the issues to be discussed.

The North 1 East UEP roadway options include intersections and roundabouts for Northeast 24th Avenue and Kismet Parkway and Northeast 24th Avenue and Diplomat Parkway. The presentation includes what staff says are many benefits of roundabouts including safety, time and cost savings, environmentally friendly.

There is an initial evaluation for the decision-making process of roundabouts that includes the initial evaluation, warrant analysis, conceptual design, detailed design and construction and community education.

The estimated amount for the roundabout at Northeast 24th Avenue and Kismet Parkway for construction, design, land, acquisition fees and contingency is $4.1 million which does not include additional LCEC pole relocation costs at an estimated $2.9 million.

The estimated roundabout cost for Northeast 24th Avenue and Diplomat Parkway is $4.1 million and the estimated traffic signal cost is $4.1 million for traffic signal analysis, design, land and acquisition fees and contingency.

For the North 3 UEP roadway cross-section options include roundabouts for Old Burnt Store Road and Kismet Parkway and Old Burnt Store Road and Tropicana Parkway.

The estimated roundabout cost for Old Burnt Store Road and Kismet Parkway is $2.5 million for construction, design, land and acquisition fees and contingency and the estimate for Old Burnt Store Road and Tropicana Parkway is $2.9 million,

Other topics include budget development to financial reporting and floodplain management policy.

The workshop will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, in City Council chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
