Lamb appointed Cape Coral’s director of Emergency Management and Resilience
Cape Coral City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn has appointed of Ryan Lamb as the city’s first-ever director of the Emergency Management and Resilience Department.
With a distinguished career in public safety and emergency management, Lamb brings a wealth of experience to this critical role, city officials said.
Lamb began his career as a volunteer firefighter during Hurricane Charley in 2004 and joined the Cape Coral Fire Department in 2005, eventually serving as Fire Chief/Emergency Management director. He holds degrees in Public Safety Administration and Administration, is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program, and was named Florida Fire Chief of the Year in 2019.
In his new role, Lamb will oversee the City’s emergency management program, enhancing disaster readiness and community resilience. He also will lead initiatives to strengthen the city’s resilience against future challenges and guide the community through proactive disaster preparation and recovery efforts.
Lamb’s leadership has already been instrumental in guiding Cape Coral through major emergencies, including Hurricane Ian, and securing a national flood insurance discount for residents through FEMA, officials said.
“The newly established Department of Emergency Management and Resilience reflects our commitment to protecting Cape Coral and preparing for the challenges of tomorrow,” Ilczyszyn said in a prepared statement. “With Ryan’s extensive expertise and proven leadership, I am confident he is the ideal choice to lead this department.”
As director, Lamb will play an essential role in strengthening Cape Coral’s ability to prepare for and recover from disasters while enhancing long-term community resilience.
“Building a culture of preparedness is vital for our community’s future,” said Lamb. “I look forward to working with City leadership, residents, and stakeholders to ensure Cape Coral is equipped to face any challenge.”
