Cape Fire Department offering free falls prevention education and evaluation event
Monday, Nov. 18, is National Injury Prevention Day, and falls are one of the leading causes of injury, particularly among older adults. However, falling is not a normal part of aging. Many falls are preventable with simple adjustments and the right knowledge. Therefore, the Cape Coral Fire Department will be hosting a free Falls Prevention Education and Evaluation event Nov. 18, between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Public Works Building located at 815 Nicholas Parkway, E.
One in four adults over 65 falls each year, and these falls can lead to serious consequences, such as fractures, hospitalizations and decreased quality of life. In addition, falling once doubles the risk of falling again.
“By learning about the causes of falls and how to prevent them,” said Acting Fire Chief Michael Russell, “we can all help reduce the risk of injury and promote a safer environment for ourselves and others.”
Available at the event, are:
• Falls risk assessments and evaluations
• Expert advice on fall-proofing your home and daily routines
• Educational materials on the latest prevention strategies
• Opportunities to ask questions and learn more about falls prevention
This event is free and open to everyone–whether you are an individual interested in learning more or a caregiver seeking guidance on how to keep your loved ones safe.
