Vote expected on proposed car wash & self-storage facility regulations

By MEGHAN BRADBURY - | Oct 15, 2024

The second and final hearing to determine land use regulations car wash and self-storage facilities is scheduled for Wednesday.

The proposed revisions for car wash facilities include definition,s conditional uses permissible in select districts and the creation of conditional use requirements.

Cape Coral City Council’s consideration comes as a result of imposed moratorium ordinances passed by the elected board in April. The moratoriums expire in January.

The self-storage facilities ordinance would create a new section specific to conditional uses. The conditional use section includes buffering requirements, area requirements and locational requirements which have to be met as part of the process of getting a permit.

As proposed, self-storage facilities would collectively be limited to a citywide maximum of 10 square feet per resident, which is the upper end for the state of Florida, city officials said.

Also on Wednesday’s Cape Coral City Council agenda is:

• A resolution to approve a one-time 10% pay increase to police officers, sergeants and lieutenant wages.

Council approval would ratify a memorandum of understanding between the city and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 33.

• Other ordinances include:

— Establishing the Victory Park Community Development District – an expansion by 121.97 acres from 137.29 acres to 259.36 acres

— Second amended master lease agreement for all charter schools and facilities with the Cape Coral Charter School Authority

— Towing and immobilization of vehicles or vessels parked on private property

Council also will hear an introduction for the Emergency and Disaster-generated debris removal program. When a state of local emergency is declared, the city manager, or designee, “shall have the power to authorize the collection, removal, and disposal of emergency and disaster-generated debris resulting from a declared disaster.”

The meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in City Council chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
