Motorists urged to use caution in the area of the Veterans Parkway and Midpoint Bridge due to overnight lane closures
Motorists are asked to use caution along Veterans Memorial Parkway between Country Club Boulevard in Cape Coral and the Fort Myers side of the Midpoint Bridge as temporary lane closures are planned in the overnight hours for the next two weeks to allow repaving.
Electronic message boards are in place and detours will be in place as necessary. The work is being scheduled in the overnight hours to minimize disruption. The work will improve the roadway surface of Veterans Parkway, a major transportation corridor between Fort Myers and Cape Coral.
The westbound shoulder of Veterans will be milled and resurfaced from 7 p.m. today until 5 a.m. Tuesday from the Midpoint Bridge to Country Club Boulevard. Beginning on Tuesday evening, Lane 1 through the toll plaza – the northernmost lane – and the off-ramp at Del Prado will be closed for resurfacing, with a detour in place. The Del Prado off-ramp will reopen by 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The toll plaza lane will remain closed until about 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16.
Later this week, work will shift to the eastbound shoulder and the eastbound Del Prado ramp. Next week, work and closures will shift to the Veterans Memorial Parkway travel lanes, reducing the number of open lanes during overnight work hours, with work expected to be completed daily by 5 a.m.
Scheduled DOT work occurs weather permitting.
