Cape Council to consider leases, subsidies, for Historical Society & Cultural Park Theatre

By MEGHAN BRADBURY - | Sep 9, 2024

New agreements with the Cape Coral Historical Society and Cultural Park Theatre Company, Inc. are among the discussion items for Cape Coral City’s Wednesday morning.

The agreement for the Cape Coral Historical Society, Inc. calls for a 10-year lease, to begin Jan. 1, 2025. There is an option for three, five-year term options.

The city “shall be responsible for all groundskeeping to include pest control, landscaping for medians, the parking lot and entrance.” The agreement further states that all repairs are subject to a $3,000 deductible paid by the CCHS. If a repair is $5,000, the city will pay $2,000, while CCHS will pay $3,000. If the repairs are greater than $5,000, they would be coordinated through the city.

As far as the financial terms, CCHS will pay $1 per year for the full term of the lease agreement, and the city will provide CCHS with a donation of $45,000 at the beginning of the lease year.

“In the event net income at the end of the CCHS annual operating year, excluding the annual donation paid by the City, is higher than expenses, the City shall receive 50 percent of such net income to be placed in a Museum Capital Reserve Account. The remaining 50 percent may be used by CCHS for normal operating expenses,” the agreement stated.

The new proposed lease agreement for Cultural Park Theatre Company, Inc also is a 10-year lease that would commence on Jan. 1, 2025, with three, five-year option terms.

The maintenance and repairs reflect the same agreement as CCHS.

CPTC will pay the city $1 per year for the term of the lease agreement. The city will provide CPTC with an annual donation of $40,000 at the beginning of the lease year.

The agreement also includes the same net income financial terms as CCHS.

Other items on Cape Coral City Council’s agenda include Cape Coral Recovery and Resilience strategic plan update, charter school lease, evacuation route study, the city attorney contract follow-up discussion and city’s Fiscal Year 2025 millage rate.

The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in City Council chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
