Fort Myers man charged with attempted second degree murder; accused of shooting into Cape home.

A Fort Myers man faces a charge of attempted second degree murder and a pair of gun-related charges after police say he fired at and into a Cape Coral home.

Angel Manuel Perez Jr. 35, of 743 Veronica Shoemaker Blvd., was arrested on the charge of attempted second degree murder as well as charges of shooting into a building and improper exhibition of a firearm in connection with an early morning incident reported May 6 in the 400 block of Northeast 16th Place.

“The caller stated that their residence had just been shot at, and the victim returned fire,” a release from the Cape Coral Police Department issued today states. “A Dodge Charger was reported to have fled the scene.”

The CCPD’s Violent Crimes Unit was notified and responded.

“At the scene, ten bullet holes were located on the victim’s lanai screen and through the glass slider into the victim’s bedroom. Several rounds went through the victim’s bedroom and into the unit next door,” the release states.

Investigators established Perez as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his home.

“A search warrant was served at Mr. Perez Jr’s residence, where a firearm, narcotics, and $20,000 were seized, as well as his Dodge Charger,” the release states.

Perez was booked into the Lee County Jail on May 12 where he remained as of Monday afternoon. Bond has been set at $250,000 on the charge of second degree murder; $25,000 each on two counts of shooting into a building;and $2,500 on the charge of improper exhibition of a firearm.
