CCPD issues 29 citations during impaired driving enforcement

The Cape Coral Police Department conducted an impaired driving enforcement — Operation Remember: Drive Sober Amidst the Shillelaghs, Shamrocks, and Shenanigans — Friday, March 17, targeting impaired driving. This operation was conducted citywide and resulted in 29 citations.

No driver was stopped without a seatbelt. Cape police remind and thank the motoring public for always wearing their seatbelts.

The operation ran from 6-11″0 p.m. Friday. The detailed results are:

• Total traffic stops: 30

• Warnings: 5

• Speed citations: 11

• Moving citations: 23

• Non-moving citations: 3

• Open container (driver): 00

• Open container (passenger): 00

• .02 violation: 00

• Criminal citations: 00

• Citations (total): 29

• DUI arrests: 03

• Arrests (other): 01 (traffic)

The operation was paid for with FDOT sub-grant funding. Cape Coral currently ranks 7th out of 37 agencies in Impaired Driving for traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix – Ranking of Florida. To improve traffic safety in the City, the Department has partnered with FDOT’s Traffic Safety Office to bring additional enforcement and education through the implementation of saturation patrols.
