CCPD conducts impaired driving operation

The Cape Coral Police Department conducted an impaired driving enforcement operation — Operation Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving — Thursday, March 2, targeting impaired driving. This operation was conducted citywide and resulted in 54 citations. No driver was stopped without a seatbelt.

The operation ran from 6 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Friday.

There was one charge of DUI – Influence of Alcohol or Drugs: Jassen Ronald Schweitzer, 50, of 2632 S.W. 9th Place, Cape Coral.

According to the CCPD, there were a total of 49 traffic stops with the following results:

• Warnings: 12

• Speed citatios: 16

• Seatbelt citations: 00

• Moving citations: 37

• Non-moving citations: 11

• Open container (Driver): 00

• Open container (Passenger): 00

• .02 Violation: 00

• Criminal citations: 06

• DUI arrests: 01

• Arrests (other): 04 (traffic)

The operation was paid for with FDOT sub-grant funding. Cape Coral currently ranks 7th out of 37 agencies in Impaired Driving for traffic fatalities and serious injuries on the Highway Safety Matrix – Ranking of Florida. To improve traffic safety in the city, the department has partnered with FDOT’s Traffic Safety Office to bring additional enforcement and education through the implementation of saturation patrols.
