By Staff | Feb 6, 2023

A Michigan man suffered fatal injuries Sunday evening in a motorcycle versus vehicle accident in the 200 block of N.E. Pine Island Road in Cape Coral, according to a report from the Cape Coral Police Department.

The CCPD said the accident occurred at approximately 6:34 p.m. when Raymond G. Danielski, 68, of Madison Heights, Michigan, was traveling east on a Harley Davidson motorcycle in the inside lane of Pine Island Road when a Nissan Altima driven by Gerney Alvarez Llerena, 33, of Cape Coral, attempted to turn south from the westbound turn lane of Pine Island Road onto Northeast 2nd Place and drove into the path of the motorcycle.

Danielski applied heavy braking and steered to the right to try to avoid the collision but was unable to do so, police said.

The front wheel of the motorcycle struck the right side of the Nissan near the front wheel and both Danielski and his passenger, Robin Lynn Atkins, 63, of Shelby Township, Michigan, were ejected, flying over the hood of the car and landing in the roadway. Both sustained life-threatening injuries and were trauma alerted to the hospital. There, police said, Danielski passed away. Atkins’ injuries were later upgraded to serious from life-threatening, according to the report.

Llerena was uninjured in the crash. One passenger in the Nissan suffered minor injuries while three additional passengers were uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation.
