By Staff | Jan 24, 2023

A Cape Coral woman was killed and another Cape resident seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash Monday morning on U.S. 41 and Zemel Road in Charlotte County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. Monday when the driver of a pickup truck towing a utility trailer south on U.S. 41 approaching Zemel Road lost control and crossed the median and onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 41.

There the pickup, driven by a 28-year-old man from Zephyrhills, collided with the front of a northbound SUV driven by a Cape Coral woman, 32.

The impact forced the SUV into the right lane of U.S. 41 where it was struck in the side by a sedan driven by a 48-year-old woman from Miami. While the driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries, a passenger in the car, a 64-year-old woman from Cape Coral, was killed. She was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to the FHP.

The driver of the pickup and his two passengers, a 29-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both from Dade City, all received minor injuries.

The Cape woman driving the SUV suffered critical injuries.

FHP reported that the accident is still under investigation and officials are trying to determine if a semi truck/trailer was also involved as a non-contact vehicle.
