Health officials lift Red Tide Alert for multiple locations after recent sample results

The Alert remains active for Lighthouse Beach Park in Sanibel

By Staff | Dec 6, 2022

The Florida Department of Health in Lee County has lifted health alerts issued from Nov. 16 to Nov. 22 for the presence of red tide near Boca Grande Pass, Captiva Pass, Red Fish Pass, Buck Key (Blind Pass), Little Bokeelia Island, Lynn Hall Park (Fort Myers Beach), New Pass (Lovers Key), Alison Hagerup Beach (Captiva), and Bonita Beach Park. Follow-up water samples taken by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission show red tide is at low to background levels near these locations.

It is important that the public continue to exercise caution and good judgement. If you experience respiratory or eye irritation, you should consider leaving the area or seeking relief in an air-conditioned space. The latest sample results can be viewed on ProtectingFloridaTogether.gov.

Report symptoms from exposure to a harmful algal bloom or any aquatic toxin to the Florida Poison Information Center. Call 1-800-222-1222 to speak to a poison specialist.
