Catholic Mass at Sarasota National Cemetery to honor veterans
The Diocese of Venice in Florida will celebrate its 13th annual Veterans Day Catholic Mass to honor veterans on Friday, Nov. 11. The Sarasota National Cemetery will be the site of the Mass, which will begin at 3 p.m.; opening ceremonies will begin at 2:45 p.m. All are encouraged to arrive early.
“This Annual Mass to commemorate Veterans Day has become a tradition in the Diocese,” said Most Rev. Frank J. Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice in Florida. “In gathering, the faithful of the Diocese honor, remember and pray for our veterans, both living and deceased. All are invited and please feel welcome to attend.”
The annual Mass is held with the intention of thanking and honoring all men and women who have served our country, many of whom are laid to rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery. It is also an opportunity to honor and pray for those who continue to serve in the Armed Forces of the United States. All military service personnel, both active and retired, are encouraged to wear their uniforms to the Mass.
The Diocese of Venice in Florida is grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at Sarasota National Cemetery and is assisted in this Veterans Day effort every year by the Knights of Columbus, who work diligently to prepare for this annual event.
Sarasota National Cemetery is located at 9810 State Road 72, four miles east of I-75 (exit 205, Clark Road). Ample parking is provided, along with handicapped parking and golf cart shuttles for those in need of extra assistance.
The Diocese of Venice in Florida was established by St. John Paul II in 1984 and today includes 61 parishes, 15 schools and serves an estimated 250,000 Catholics. The Most Rev. Frank J. Dewane is the Bishop of the Diocese, following Bishop John J. Nevins. For more information on the Diocese of Venice in Florida, visit http://www.dioceseofvenice.org.
