The Salvation Army receives $500,000 from the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation to aid victims of Hurricane Ian

The Salvation Army in Naples, Fort Myers and Port Charlotte is partnering with the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation to aid victims of Hurricane Ian through a joint disaster assistance program. Funds will be available to those who have been impacted by the storm, including a specific designated amount for our “Hometown Heroes” who have been working round the clock to keep our community safe, rebuilding our infrastructure and educating our children.
“The Schulze family and the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation are grateful to be able to support the many, many families that have been so tragically impacted by Hurricane Ian. This immediate funding provided to the Salvation Army organizations in Lee, Collier and Charlotte Counties will help people with emergency assistance as they begin the process of recovery from Hurricane Ian and work to rebuild their lives. We are confident that through the trusted work of The Salvation Army and the resilience of Southwest Florida that our communities will come back stronger than ever,” said Mary Beth Geier, Florida Director, Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation.
Funds will be dispersed to eligible households in the three qualifying counties, Lee, Collier and Charlotte, in a quick and timely manner by utilizing technology which will enable our ability to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of thousands of families impacted by Ian.
“Major Gargis, Captain Roseno and I are extremely grateful for the continued support of the Schulze Foundation,” said Captain Ben Bridges. “Along with incredible support from, Collier Community Foundation, Trinity by the Cove Episcopal Church and many other local and national organizations we are able to meet the needs of our neighbors in very practical and meaningful ways.”
By utilizing the most up to date technology, families will be able to apply for funds using a computer or their smartphones to link to a questionnaire that will determine their eligibility. Each application will then be vetted and approved by a case manager, with funds being distributed immediately. Our intent is to get these funds out to eligible families in the greatest need ASAP.
The Salvation Army was immediately on the ground serving meals, providing supplies and emotional and spiritual support to all those in our communities affected by Hurricane Ian in Southwest Florida and will continue to serve as our communities recover and rebuild.
