Well, it’s the end of September and we’ve now been closed for three weeks! To say it’s been a rough month is an understatement! Hurricane Ian was an unexpected turn of events after the lightning strike in early September and we are devastated to see the destruction of so much of our community and those surrounding us in SWFL.

The good news is that the Museum appears to have gone through the storm without being flooded inside the buildings. Unfortunately, the Museum grounds are a mess. Trees down, standing water behind the museum buildings, shingles gone, fascia damage and as an added bonus – a surprise port a potty wedged sideways up against the Rosen porch (no clue where that came from!)

The property has no power or running water so while the exhibits and collections appear intact we won’t know if everything is still operational until power is restored, which could be a long time. We will continue to keep you updated as we know more.

At this point next week’s field trip and fundraiser have been postponed. We will advise everyone on the new dates soon. If you wish to support the Museum through our cleanup and extended closure, donations can be made 24 hours a day through our website- https://capecoralmuseum.org/donate/

For any questions or to contact the Museum please email us at info@capecoralmuseum.org. Be sure to follow us on social media @CapeCoralMuseumofHistory to keep up to date on everything going on with the Museum.
