12-year-old accused of posting school threat to Snapchat
A Cape Coral 12-year-old was arrested Tuesday after she reportedly posted a photo to Snapchant “brandishing a light-colored ‘machine gun’ style weapon with the wording, ‘imma shoot up the school tmr.'”
School resource officers with the Cape Coral Police Department at Diplomat Middle School were made aware of the post at 1 p.m.
CCPD’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the school, assumed the investigation and detectives then went to the girl’s home, a release issued this afternoon states.
The girl “claimed ownership of the Snapchat username and admitted to sending the photo,” the release states. The child also said that the gun shown in the photo was a fake “blaster” gun and was broken, officials said, adding she also said the post was “just a joke.”
“A gray and orange SplatRball gun was located and submitted as evidence,” the release states.
She was charged with Written or Electronic Threats to Kill or Conduct a Mass Shooting and transported to Lee County Jail.
