Lee Commissioners authorize grant submissions to assist people who are or at risk of being homeless

The Lee Board of County Commissioners today voted to authorize Continuum of Care grant applications to assist people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.
The annual applications to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) request about $2.6 million in federal funding for local agencies. A supplemental application requests about $3.6 million in federal funding over a three-year grant term for local agencies.
An estimated 644 households would receive housing and supportive services annually. If awarded, funds will be received during Fiscal Year 2022-2023, which spans Oct. 1, 2022 – Sept. 30, 2023.
The Lee County Continuum of Care includes local governments, agencies, advocates and program users who collectively plan and implement programs to serve persons who are homeless and at risk of homelessness in Lee County. The Lee County Homeless Coalition and the Lee County Department of Human and Veteran Services coordinate this effort, and county officially submits the grant application for the Department of HUD funding.
