Fire union contract, commercial parking on Council agenda

The Cape Coral City Council will consider a proposed collective bargaining agreement with the union representing Cape Coral Fire Department employees on Wednesday.
Council is expected to approve and ratify the agreement between the city and the Cape Coral Professional Fire Fighters, Local 2424 of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
The union represents the supervisory and rank-and-file bargaining units, which have been working under their old contract that expired Sept. 30, 2021.
The firefighters ratified the contract on Aug. 4. City Manager Rob Hernandez recommends the council do the same. The contract would run until Sept. 30, 2024.
Among the issues negotiated are work schedules, exchange of duty, health and safety, paid leave, and health and welfare benefits for retired employees.
In other business:
• Council will consider an ordinance that would “prohibit overnight parking of commercial vehicles and trailers on certain public streets posted with signs.”
According to the ordinance, the city has seen a significant increase in the number of relatively large vehicles and trailers being parked and stored along some city streets overnight.
This has made the problem of finding parking in Cape Coral even worse and has limited the ability of drivers to see what’s ahead, city officials said.
If approved, Southwest 8th Place from Southwest 22nd Terrace to Southwest 24th Street, Northeast 2nd Place from Northeast Van Loon Lane to Pine Island Road, and Ceitus Terrace from Southwest 10th Place to Southwest 12th Avenue will have no parking of commercial vehicles or trailers from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• Council will get a report from Plante Moran regarding EnerGov, the city’s permitting system with which it has experienced numerous issues since the city implemented the new system in February.
• The evaluation of the city manager is also an agenda item at the regular Council meeting.
The meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd.
