A ceremony honoring Iraq war veterans takes place this Saturday morning at Eco Park’s Veteran Memorial Area.

Michelle Rosenberger, the chairperson of the large star Iraq War monument at the park, will host a final ceremony that will see the last spots filled on the Star of Heroes with tags of those that have passed.

“These heroes will never be forgotten as long as the monument and I are around to honor all of our Iraq War heroes,” she said.

The ceremony takes place at 9 a.m., and those being honored and remembered include Marine CPL Bradley Holbrook who served in Desert Storm and passed in May; Gen. Raymond Odierno who passed of cancer last year; and Gen. Ann Dunwoody, the first female 4-star general in any armed service.

The Cape Coral Fire Department will provide a fire truck and flag, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office a flyover, the American Legion Post 90 bugler will play to the colors and later taps, and the American Legion and Cape Coral Police Department will provide the Color Guard. Guns n’ Hoses will perform service branch songs and Amazing Grace. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office will render a 21-gun salute. A variety of veteran dignitaries will give speeches.

Contact Rosenberger at iraqmonument@yahoo.com for additional information about the ceremony.

The event is free and open to the public.

Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve is at 2500 Southeast 24th St. The park sits on the right side of the Cape Coral exit off Midpoint bridge, toward the end of Southeast 23 Terrace.
