19-year-old man dies in crash on Mellow Drive in North Fort Myers
A 19-year-old Lehigh Acres man died today in a traffic crash on Mellow Drive near Barbie Lane in North Fort Myers.
According to the report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. when a tow truck, driven by a 37-year-old Lehigh Acres man, was headed east on Mellow Drive and crossed over the center line of the roadway and collided with a fully-loaded dump truck, driven by the 19 year old, headed west on Mellow Drive, east of Barbie Lane.
The impact caused the dump truck to overturn where it became engulfed in flames, according to FHP. The driver of the dump truck was pronounced deceased on scene.
The driver of the tow truck was uninjured.
The investigation continues, FHP said, and Mellow Drive remains closed due to diesel fuel spillage cleanup.
