Legion Post 90’s Clark named Legionnaire of the Year
Ted Clark, the public relations officer for American Legion Post 90 in Cape Coral, was selected as the Legionnaire of the Year at the American Legion state conference in June 2022. The American Legion Department of Florida has over 130,000 members, with more than 300 Legion posts across the state. Members support veterans and their families by promoting national security, advocating patriotism and honor, mentoring youth and sponsoring wholesome programs within its communities.
Clark is a member of the Post 90 Executive Committee, a member of the honor and color guard, the chair of the PR Committee, served as a member of the ad hoc Constitutional Committee, is the Oratorical Scholarship chair, chair of the Buddy Check program, chair of the ad hoc Credit Card Committee, co-editor of the Post Newsletter and one of the three Post Facebook administrators.
Clark stated “that it’s not the individual but the team that provides the ideas and implements them to improve the organization. My Marketing Committee has been spectacular in developing and implementing marketing concepts, which is one of the reasons I was awarded this honor.”
Clark served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and began his career in teaching in 1987. He retired from academia as a college professor in 2015 from the State University of New York, moved to Cape Coral in 2016 with his wife Carolyn, and in 2020 joined Post 90.
As the Commander of the American Legion 13th District, Bud Boyer, said, “It’s all about the quality and caliber of the nominee. Ted demonstrated both. The award is impressive given that Florida has over 300 American Legion Posts.”
The Commander of Post 90, John Baker, said, “Ted well deserved this award given all the programs he initiated, the committees he chaired and the leadership skills he demonstrated.”
Bill McKernan, the Post 90 Assistant Adjutant, said, “Ted Clark is the first member of Post 90 ever to win the award. Given the number of America Legion Posts in Florida, it was particularly remarkable but not surprising because of the level of his contribution to the Post.”
American Legion Post 90 in Cape Coral was founded in April 2001. The post offers a full canteen and food service at 1401 S.E. 47th Street and sponsors scholarships, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, blood drives, VA volunteers and emergency funds programs to assist veterans in need.
