American Legion Cape Coral Post 90 wins statewide awards

The American Legion Department of Florida hosted its 103rd statewide convention at the Hilton Orlando in Lake Buena Vista. The Florida Legion has over three hundred Posts statewide with over 130,000 members.
American Legion Post 90 in Cape Coral won five awards, including the prestigious Legionnaire of the Year. Post 90 also bested other Florida Posts to win Best Post Shooting Sports Program, Best Post Sargent-at-Arms, the Best Blood Drive Program, and Best Public Relations Program. Both Post 90 and the Post Auxiliary attained 103% membership goals.
The top award of Legionnaire of the Year was awarded to Ted Clark. He is the Public Relations officer for Post 90 and was both surprised and delighted at receiving the award. He stated “that it’s not the individual but the team that provides the ideas and implements them. The Marketing Committee has been spectacular in working with the print and electronic news media in Cape Coral and supporting community events such as Bike Night and Oktoberfest.”
Clark is a member of the Executive Committee, a member of the Honor and Color Guard, the Chair of the PR Committee, the Oratorical Scholarship Chair, and Chair of the Buddy Check program.
Approximately 3,000 American Legion members, including spouses and family members, attended the annual statewide conference which gives Florida Legionnaires an opportunity to gather, exchange ideas, and reunite as a family. The Department convention also conducts its annual business during this event, electing new leadership, celebrating successes, and recognizing outstanding individuals and posts.
American Legion Post 90 in Cape Coral was founded in April 2001. The Post offers a full canteen and food service at Southeast 47th Street and sponsors scholarships, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, blood drives, V.A. volunteers, and programs to assist veterans in need.
