Most Lee County administrative operations will be closed Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. The county’s holiday schedule adjustments are as follows:

Solid Waste

All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in unincorporated Lee County, the City of Bonita Springs, the Village of Estero and the Town of Fort Myers Beach will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day for the entire week of July 4. This means that if your regular collection day is Monday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Tuesday. Tuesday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Wednesday and so on for the rest of the week through Saturday, July 9. Regular collection schedules resume on Monday, July 11.

Lee County Solid Waste facilities and offices are closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of the holiday. This includes operations at the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, 6441 Topaz Court, the Resource Recovery Facility on Buckingham Road and the Lee/Hendry Regional Solid Waste Disposal Facility. The Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility will be closed Saturday, July 2, but open 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 9.

Solid Waste urges all residents to recycle plastic, metal and glass containers from July Fourth weekend activities.

Lee County Utilities

The offices of Lee County Utilities, the Call Center and drive-thru window will be closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. A drop-box is on-site at the front door and another accessible via the drive-thru for payments by check.

Animal Services will be closed for the holiday on Monday, July 4, and will resume regular business hours Tuesday, July 5.

Parks & Recreation

Lee County’s parks, splash pads, pools and preserves remain open on Independence Day. Offices and recreation centers are closed on the holiday and will reopen Tuesday, July 5.

The county asks park patrons to remember no alcohol is permitted in county parks and fireworks are prohibited.

For people who plan to visit the Causeway Island Park, staff reminds them to stay safe and be courteous. Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be enforcing the county’s noise ordinance; please keep music volumes reasonable. No motorized vessels, such as personal watercraft, can be launched from causeway beaches; boat ramps are available on both sides of the causeway. Park hours are dawn until dusk, and deputies and rangers will be enforcing hours for safety.

Increased staffing is planned to help with park-rule enforcement in the interest of safety for all park patrons.
