Veterans and those who are homeless to get help with unpaid court fines

By Staff | Jan 21, 2022

Veterans and people experiencing homelessness will be able to get assistance with their unpaid court fines Saturday, Jan. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon at CityGate Ministries, 1735 Jackson St. in Fort Myers.

Attendees must register by Jan. 26 at trafficcourt.eventbrite.com and wear masks to participate. A valid government-issued ID is required, such as a DD214, VA card, birth certificate, or driver license.

“We’re honored to work with our community partners to improve the lives of citizens in our community, especially our veterans,” said Kevin Karnes, Lee Clerk’s chief operating officer. “We hope this event helps them get back on their feet.”

Court services will be provided in the gymnasium to allow for safe distancing. Any issues related to license clearances will be handled the following business days.

The event is produced in partnership with the Lee County Homeless Coalition, JFCS of the Suncoast, 20th Judicial Circuit Administrative Office of the Courts, and the Lee County Tax Collector.
