A fire in the early morning hours Tuesday in Cape Coral resulted in a death, according to fire department officials.

The Cape Coral Fire Department was called to the 400 block of Southeast 3rd Street and firefighters were met by a large blaze at a residential home. Ten department vehicles responded.

“When firefighters arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed,” said CCFD officials. “There was a heavy fuel load, and the roof collapsed as crews began their fire attack.”

The fire department was able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes in the area. Officials said once the blaze was put out, a harrowing discovery of loss of life took place.

“Unfortunately, one victim was found deceased in the home,” CCFD officials said. “Our sympathies go out to the victim’s family and friends.”

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire, which has not yet been determined.

The Cape Coral Police Department is conducting the death investigation.
