United Way Goblin Gallop around the corner

LCEC-sponsored charity run/walk scheduled for Oct. 30 in Cape’s Jaycee Park

By CHUCK BALLARO - | Oct 7, 2021

In just a few short weeks, LCEC will hold the 10th Annual LCEC Goblin Gallop 5K to benefit the United Way. The LCEC Goblin Gallop 5K Run/Walk will be held on Oct. 30 at Jaycee Park in Cape Coral.

Set up will open at 6:30 a.m. and the race starts at 7:30. The kids run and awards will follow the race. There will also be a virtual race option that participants can complete at any time from now until race day if they still don’t feel comfortable being outdoors with a large group of people.

Jenell Dolan, who has organized the race the past four years, said the race started as another way the company can support the United Way, which they do through numerous events they hold throughout the year.

“It started in Cape Coral and it’s been there ever since, even last year. We’ve had more than 200 runners in the past, but with COVID last year, we were down to around 130,” Dolan said. “It was more than we thought because we weren’t sure with all the protocols in place. We’re hoping for around 200 this year.”

Register by Oct. 15 and you are guaranteed a shirt or tank top. Packet pickup will be held from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 29 at the Run Shoppe in Cape Coral.

The live and virtual 5K event is $25 with the shirt-medal and bib, $20 with the medal and bib and $10 for the kids fun run. After Oct. 27, the prices increase by $5 for each.

There will be music and an awards ceremony after the fun run, with awards going to the top three in each age group and great weather, since the mornings are starting to cool down a bit, Dolan said.

This event will follow all CDC guidelines, with runners spaced out. If you are sick, please stay home and consider your race fee as a donation.

If there is inclement weather on race day or health concerns do not permit gatherings, this event will be completely virtual.

Since its inception, the Goblin Gallop has netted more than $18,862 for the United Way, including nearly $2,000 last year despite the pandemic.
