Cape man receives three life sentences in murder case
The State Attorney’s Office reported today that Cristian Edwin Dilan, 23, of Cape Coral, was sentenced to three life sentences in the case involving the murder of a woman in Bonita Springs. He was sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder, as well as robbery and burglary.
He was sentenced to 5 years in prison for tampering with physical evidence and also for grand theft of a motor vehicle. The sentences are to be served concurrently.
Dilan was found guilty as charged in July following a trial in Lee County.
According to the State Attorney’s Office, the crimes happened on Oct. 29, 2017. A woman was found dead inside a home that was on fire. The 34-year-old was found by firefighters, under a mattress, with numerous stab wounds. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded and began an investigation that led to the arrest of Dilan and a co-defendant, who is awaiting trial.
Assistant State Attorney Brenda Wade and Assistant State Attorney Leena Marcos prosecuted the case.
