Following a five-day trial, a jury has found a Cape Coral man guilty of second degree murder in connection to a robbery-turned-homicide in Bonita Springs nearly four years ago,

Cristian Edwin Dilan, 23, also was found guilty Monday of robbery, tampering with physical evidence, burglary, and grand theft of a motor vehicle in the Oct. 29, 2017 slaying of the woman in her home which then was set afire.

The 34-year-old victim was found by firefighters, under a mattress. She had been battered and stabbed multiple times.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded and began an investigation that led to the arrest of Dilan and a co-defendant, Raymond Gomez, who is awaiting trial.

According to court records, Dilan and “additional perpetrators” arrived at the woman’s home intending to remove items from the residence. The woman, who was home, confronted them.

Sentencing for Dilan is scheduled for Aug. 23.

Assistant State Attorney Leena Marcos and Assistant State Attorney Brenda Wade prosecuted the case.
