Lee County operations make adjustments for Independence Day

The Fourth of July holiday will result in some closures and schedule changes for Lee County operations. County administrative offices will be closed on Monday, July 5, and will reopen on Tuesday, July 6. The following are adjustments due to Independence Day falling on Sunday:

Solid Waste

There will be no change to residential garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in unincorporated Lee County, the City of Bonita Springs, the Village of Estero and the Town of Fort Myers Beach.

The Resource Recovery Facility on Buckingham Road will be open to accept waste from 6:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 3. The Resource Recovery Facility will be closed on Sunday, July 4, and open 6:30 a.m.to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 5.

All Solid Waste offices and the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, 6441 Topaz Court, will be closed Saturday, July 3, and Monday, July 5.

The Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, which is normally open on the first Saturday of each month, instead will be open 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 10.

The Solid Waste Department encourages residents to recycle the plastic, metal and glass from their Independence Day celebrations.

Lee County Utilities

The offices of Lee County Utilities, the Customer Service Center and drive-thru window will be closed on Monday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day. A drop-box is on-site at the front door and another box is accessible via the drive-thru for payments by check.

Parks & Recreation

Lee County’s parks, splash pads and preserves remain open through the holiday weekend. Pools are closed Sunday and Monday, July 4 and 5. Pools will re-open Tuesday, July 6.

Centers are closed Sunday, July 4, and will re-open Monday, July 5. Administration offices will be closed Monday, July 5, and re-open Tuesday, July 6.

Animal Services

Animal Services, 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, will be closed on Monday, July 5. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, July 6.

LeeTran

Bus service will operate its regular schedule on Saturday, July 3. LeeTran will not operate regularly scheduled bus or paratransit service on Sunday, July 4. Limited trolley service will be available in the Downtown River District and on Fort Myers Beach on July 4. For details, visit www.RideLeeTran.com. Full bus, trolley and paratransit service will resume Monday, July 5.

Library System

Library branches will be open Saturday, July 3. Library branches and administrative offices will be closed Monday, July 5.

Libraries will resume regular schedules on Tuesday, July 6.
