Cape police continue to investigate weekend shooting that left one man dead
A 19-year-old Fort Myers man, shot in the vicinity of a teen birthday party this past weekend in Cape Coral, has died of his injuries.
Cape Coral Police Department officials have identified the victim as Kevin Girard Palmer, who was first taken to Cape Coral Hospital. He was then transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where he later died.
CCPD responded to the 100 block of Southeast 6th Street around 4:30 a.m. on April 24 in response to a shots fired call. Arriving officers found multiple shell casings along the roadway of Southeast 1st Avenue.
According to the police report, multiple witnesses heard a flurry of gunshots and said they saw several vehicles leaving the area. The report states witnesses also said someone was dragged into a white SUV by two individuals.
The report continues that a CCPD officer at Cape Coral Hospital on an unrelated call witnessed a white SUV arrive with three people exiting, one with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
Police said a family from Lehigh Acres had rented a vacation house to celebrate a 17th birthday. According to a CCPD release, “An Instagram personality posted about the party. The post resulted in multiple people arriving uninvited to the party. A disturbance ensued away from the residence. During the disturbance, multiple shots were fired. A black male was shot in the head.”
While canvassing the area, officers found two cars and two houses with bullet holes in them.
CCPD asks that any information on the identity of the suspect(s) be reported to the Cape Coral Police Department by calling 239-574-3223, submitting an anonymous tip at www.capecops.com/tips, https://new.tipsubmit.com/en/create-report/anonymous, or by sending a message through their social media platforms.
