Spring Plant Sale set for Saturday at Rotary Park

Flowering shrubs and trees, host and nectar plants for butterflies, native plants and more at popular multiple-vendor event

With spring in full swing, Cape Coral residents can find all they need for their garden this weekend at Rotary Park.

Find flowering shrubs and trees, host and nectar plants for butterflies, a variety of native plants and more at Rotary Park Environmental Center’s Spring Plant Sale this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Rotary Park Recreation Program Supervisor Katie Locklin detailed the abundance of different finds to be had at this weekend’s event.

Pick up a banana tree or other food-producing plants; find salt and drought-tolerable plants or the perfect shrubbery to give your space the privacy you need. Check out the mix of native and non-native-but-friendly-to-your-garden plants and even some unique, edible plants. Along with plants, attendees can peruse a selection of pottery as well.

“There really is something for everyone,” Locklin said. “It doesn’t cost anything to come and look around. So come on out, talk to the growers, and get yourself some happy little plants. This event is outside and the plants and vendors will be spaced out, so people can feel comfortable browsing and shopping outside.”

With the COVID-19 pandemic having kept many at home more often, the hobby or gardening has become a popular one to pick up.

“It does seem like many people took up gardening during the pandemic,” Locklin said. “People may have found themselves with little to do and no place to go, so they decided to focus their energies on creating their own private garden sanctuaries.”

Vendors on-site are from family owned small businesses from Lee County.

“With the lack of events happening in the last year, its great to be able to get outside and do something that helps out family businesses, and will enhance your home and neighborhood,” Locklin said.

She added plants that range from 1 to 15 gallons in size from $3 to $40. Cape Coral Parks and Recreation has held this sale annually at Rotary Park for the last 18 years. There is also another sale on the last Saturday in July.

“Yes, July can be hot, but that is also right in the heart of the rainy season, so Mother Nature does all the watering for you. Once you get your plants in the ground, of course,” Lockin joked.

Rotary Park is at 5505 Rose Garden Road.
