A man transported to a local hospital following a shooting in Cape Coral Tuesday night has died.

He has been identified as Nelson Leyva, 28, of Lehigh Acres.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. in the 900 block of S.E. 16th Place in Cape Coral.

“Officers arrived quickly and found one subject in the residence had been shot,” the Cape Coral Police Department said in an updated release issued late Wednesday afternoon. “He received medical attention and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

No other details were immediately available.

“This case remains an active and ongoing investigation. Further updates will be released when available,” the release states.

Officials said there is no danger to the public.
