Chili Cook Off & Monster Truck Show set for Sunday
Funds raised at third annual event to benefit veterans and local children
Some like it spicy, some like it sweet, and Southwest Florida residents can get a taste of them all this Sunday at the third annual Chili Cook Off & Monster Truck Show.
On March, 28, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Club Square in Cape Coral, local restaurants and individuals will present their best take on the classic dish sure to tingle taste buds.
The event is a collaboration between the Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation-Florida, Inc. and AMVETS Post 65. Proceeds will benefit both groups and provide needed funds to the Veterans Foundation to continue offering free services to area veterans and their families, and allow Post 65 to continue its services to the children of Cape Coral and surrounding areas.
“We are excited about this event and the impact it will have in Cape Coral for our veterans and community,” said Denise Wood, Invest in America’s Veterans Foundation-Florida event coordinator.
The free-admission afternoon will features more than 30 vendors. There will be nine restaurants and 10 to 15 individual chili entries. Tickets for chili samples are $1 each or $5 for six and will be allocated based on sample size. Attendees will be able to sample the individual contestant’s chili entries after the professionals have judged the dishes.
Participating restaurants entering the chili cook-off include: Annie’s, Big 8 BBQ, Ceno Grille, Ford’s Garage, Harbor Catering, Kimber’s Wine & Cigar Lounge, Nevermind Awesome Bar and Eatery, Penny’s Coffee Bar, and The Dive.
More than 10 monster trucks from Savage 4×4 in Fort Myers will be on hand for residents to get an up-close look at these beasts of the road.
There will also be more than 50 different raffle items donated by local businesses spanning a wide variety of interests.
Also included are food trucks, a corn hole tournament, a hole in one challenge and games for the kids. Live entertainment will be ringing throughout the venue via Banjo Steve and the No BS Band.
