Jumping back in: Sun Splash Family Waterpark opens
Sun Splash set for new season
It’s that time of year once again where the weather starts to heat up and residents look for a cool spot.
Southwest Florida’s largest water park is set to open for the 2021 season, as Cape Coral’s Sun Splash Family Waterpark opens this Saturday.
“I’m so happy to be opening up for a new season,” said waterpark manager Sandra Greiner. “We made lots of improvements and encourage people to come on out and enjoy the park.”
The park will operate at 75% percent capacity this year, up from the 50% the city allowed last season.
Sun Splash staff will continue implementing their social distancing and sanitation measures, such as more spacing at the ticket booths, attraction lines and restaurant areas, marked by tape; one way traffic in the gift shop; sanitation of public life jackets between uses; more frequent checks and cleaning of the restrooms; and, regular public announcements made over the speaker reminding guests about social distancing.
“We’re still taking all of the precautions that we took last year,” Grenier said.
Residents can take advantage of the early bird promotion, where season passes can be obtained at a $20 discount from now until April 4.
Greiner said Sun Splash has already received lots of interest when it comes to booking birthday parties and other events.
“I think ‘staycations’ are coming back into play, as they did back in 2010,” Grenier said.
The park features 14 acres of attractions, including the recently constructed “Pirates Cove” for youth and adults alike.
Sun Splash has lots to offer not just kids, but the whole family. You can relax along the Main Stream River Tube Ride as is gently navigates you through the park. For the more adventurous, Thunder Bump, Terror Tube and the X-celerator drop guests down a five-story incline, perfect for the adrenaline rush you’re looking for. Flumes, tunnels and slides all find a home at Sun Splash, varying in size and ferocity. Grab a summertime snack or adult beverage at the Calypso Café or simply soak up the sun in a lounge chair poolside.
Greiner said many slides were refurbished and a majority of the part was repainted to give it a fresh feel.
“The park looks better than ever right now,” she said.
The park is open this Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sun Splash is at 400 Santa Barbara Blvd. For more information about Sun Splash, the season operating schedule, admission rates and directions to the park, call 239-574-0558 or visit www.SunSplashWaterpark.com.
