Drivers with overdue traffic tickets or court fees in Lee County that are affecting the status of their license, can get a break on collection fees during Operation Green Light.

The in-house and virtual event is part of a statewide initiative designed to help drivers get back on the road.

In Lee County, the event will be held Feb. 22 – March 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; March 5 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (virtual after 5 p.m.) and March 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (virtual only), courtesy of the Lee County Clerk of the Courts Office.

To participate, customers can connect via TeleClerk video conference or call 239-533-5000 to pay by credit card. To connect to TeleClerk, click on the icon on the homepage of LeeClerk.org. Customers who wish to pay in cash or by check at the Justice Center or the Cape Coral Office must schedule an appointment at LeeClerk.org. Only TeleClerk services are available during extended office hours.

“Customers have the opportunity to participate in Operation Green Light from the safety and convenience of their home,” Clerk Linda Doggett said in a prepared statement. “Our new video conferencing service is especially beneficial to all our customers who have suspended driver licenses and cannot drive to the Justice Center.”

If customers are unable to pay in full during the event, they can still benefit from the substantial savings by signing up for a payment plan. Once all court fees and traffic tickets are paid in full, customers may be eligible to reinstate their driver licenses. Additional fees may be required by the Tax Collector’s office to reinstate a driver license.

Payments by credit card are subject to a transaction fee. Customers with in-person appointments can make payments in cash, cashier’s check, money order or credit card. Appointments will be held at the Justice Center, 2075 MLK Blvd. in Fort Myers and 1039 SE 9th Pl. in Cape Coral.

Customers who pay in person are required to undergo CDC-recommended health screenings. Temperatures are checked at security checkpoints, face coverings are required while inside the building, and social distancing is enforced.

During last year’s event, nearly 850 customers saved more than $1 million and 545 were able to reinstate their license.

Payments must be made in the county where the fees and fines are owed. Many other Clerk’s offices throughout Florida will be holding Operation Green Light events from Feb. 22 – March 6.
