Found phone leads to arrest for possession of child pornography

A Bokeelia man had been charged with possession of obscene material after police found thousands of images of child pornography on a phone he had lost.

Ty Allen Rollins, 52, of Pinehurst Road, was arrested on Jan. 23. He has been charged with 10 counts of obscene material – possess (possess control view depiction of child sex conduct.)

The investigation began on Dec. 18 after Cape Coral Police Department officers responded to a report of a found phone.

“In an attempt to locate the owner, the phone was opened. Once the phone was opened, very disturbing images were found,” the CCPD said in a release issued Tuesday.

“The phone was taken to the Cape Coral Police Department for further investigation,” the release states. “After a warrant was written by a Major Crimes Detective and served, the phone was downloaded to collect and preserve the disturbing images. The owner of the phone was identified as Ty Allen Rollins. The Cape Coral Police Department’s Forensics Unit discovered over 3,900 images of child pornography.”

Rollins remained in the Lee County Jail Thursday morning. Bond has been set at $5,000 on each count.
