Home show to return to Lee Civic Center

By CHUCK BALLARO - | Jan 26, 2021

One of the largest home shows in Southwest Florida returns to the Lee Civic Center this weekend when the Fort Myers Home and Remodeling Show takes place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The show in October was cancelled because of COVID. However, Jackielou, show manager for Professional Show Management, said that since other shows were happening and getting strong attendance, they would put their show on, following safety guidelines.

“Many of our exhibitors said they wanted to do it. We will require masks and our vendors will be distanced, and there’s a lot of room there to do that,” Jackielou said.

The show is dedicated to local contractors specializing in floors to doors, spas to pools, kitchens and bathrooms, landscaping, patios, hurricane protection, solar, water treatment, HVAC and much more.

Around 100 exhibitors will be there promoting all kinds of things for the home. There will also be food vendors, cutlery, satellite TV services, charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, metal art, insurance, cosmetics and more.

“We’re probably at about 80 percent capacity for our usual 120 to 130 exhibitors. We have some new people and others that normally do the show, so that’s good,” Jackielou said. “Some, like the major corporations, can’t do it because they have their own safety guidelines.”

The show came to the civic center in 2017 and has held two shows a year, in October and in January, which have both drawn big crowds, though the January one tends to be busier because of the snowbirds.

COVID, however, could make that a question mark, as many will not be coming down this winter, especially those from Canada.

The show will take place Friday from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $6 and kids get in for free.
