A blast from the past
Cape Coral Museum of History to host drive-up movie Jan. 16
Cape residents will have the opportunity to enjoy one of America’s favorite pastimes next weekend in the form of a free drive-up movie.
The Cape Coral Museum of History, along with the city of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department, will be hosting a drive-up showing of “Night at the Museum” in Cultural Park on Saturday, Jan. 16, sponsored by the Gunterberg Charitable Foundation.
“This gives people an opportunity to come out as a family to do something out in public but yet continue to be socially distanced,” said museum Executive Director Janel Trull.
Only 75 vehicles will be allowed on site. Members of the public can register online to reserve a slot (one ticket per vehicle).
The museum usually hosts its annual “Jammin in Cultural Park” this time of year, but was unable to get the green light due to COVID-19 guidelines. Officials were already planning on hosting a movie night in the park to go along with the popular music festival and are grateful to still be able to put on something unique for the community.
“The idea of the drive-up movie is something we don’t typically do today and has become a resurgence during the time of COVID,” Trull said. “We thought it would be a great idea to be able to bring people out. It’s January so it’s a bit cooler at night which gives you the opportunity to stay in your car and still see the movie and just give you that whole nostalgia feel.”
The movie hits the big screen at 6:30 p.m. with parking open at 5. Food vendors IRagazzi Pizza and Sunny Days Ice Cream will be on site. The city’s Fun Mobile will also make an appearance and attendees will have a chance at special giveaways.
For optimum listening, there will be signs at the venue with the radio frequency to tune into to listen to the movie.
Museum officials said they would be following social and physical distancing recommendations. Masks are encouraged when you visit onsite vendors, but not required.
For more information on the event, contact the Cape Coral Museum of History at 239-772-7037 or get your ticket online (under special events) at www.capecoralhistoricalmuseum.org.
The drive-up movie will be shown at 544 Cultural Park Blvd., behind the Cape Coral Museum of History.
