Residents urged to ‘plog’ with KLCB

By Staff | Dec 29, 2020

Local residents are asked to join Keep Lee County Beautiful Inc. and “plog” across Lee County. The word “plogging” is derived from the Swedish phrase “plocka upp,” which refers to picking up garbage when out walking or jogging.  Starting in the New Year, KLCB will meet to plog every Wednesday from 8-9 a.m. at a new location.

During the pandemic there has been an increase in environmental pollution, according to KLCB. The use of disposable plastics has increased by about 40%, from PPE to the increase in takeout services causing more waste.

With Lee County being a coastal community, eventually any loose trash will find its way into a lake, river, canal or estuary, that could eventually end up in the Gulf. Preventing this from occurring is vital to protecting the local environment, wildlife and waterways.

Visit the Keep Lee County Beautiful Facebook page or website at http://klcb.org for the locations and dates. For information, call 239-334-3488 or visit www.klcb.org.
